With the advancement of society, various forms of tourism are emerging which one can consider as a niche to tourism and are becoming more popular day by day.
- Architectural Tourism: People travel with a view to see ancient and world heritage monuments like churches, palaces, and ancient houses to make a study on the architecture.
- Adventure Tourism: Tourists in search of adventure constitute mostly youngsters. They would like to stimulate their appetite for an adventure through trekking; air/water sports adventurous sports such as mountaineering and hiking etc.
- Agrotourism: Farm-based tourism, helping to support the local agricultural economy of a region; tourists visit places/regions where agriculture is practiced.
- Armchair tourism and virtual tourism: Not traveling physically, but exploring the world through the internet, books, TV, etc. These types of tourists physically do not travel but explore places of interest with the help of the internet and other sources of media to get the satisfaction of traveling.
- Cultural tourism: Includes urban tourism, visiting historical or interesting cities, and experiencing their cultural heritage. This type of tourism may also include specialized cultural experiences, such as art, museum, etc. tourism in which the tourist visits are usually art museums and places that are famous for cultural heritage.
- Beach/ Coastal Tourism: It involves tourist products located along Coastal Environments-due to the limited extent of coastal environments they often are amongst the first places to experience coastal tourist congestion for a region.
- Ecotourism: A type of tourism in which the tourists visit places who love to be with nature, sustainable tourism which has a very little impact on the environment, such as safaris, Rainforests, and hiking or national parks.
- Educational tourism: This type of tourism involves traveling to all educational institutes like colleges and universities, a wooded retreat, or some other destination in order to take personal interest classes, such as cooking classes with a famous chef or crafts classes, etc.
- Garden tourism: Visiting botanical gardens, famous places in the history of gardening, etc. where the tourists derive satisfaction by visiting the different world famous gardens.
- Heritage tourism: The common form of tourism available to a tourist is heritage tourism where the tourist visits places of heritage importance such as religious places, battlefields industrial sites, places of historical importance, etc.
- Health tourism: Tourists who are usually health-conscious visit places that offer health treatments like yoga, spas, ayurvedic treatments, etc. mostly to escape the busy city stress or for some fun in the sun.
- Medical Tourism: People travel to other countries for advanced medical care that is not available in one’s own country or maybe to avoid the long waiting lists in one’s own country or for use of free or cheap health care treatments in other countries.
- Mystical tourism: Tourism for people who believe feel the energy, travel to places to meditate yoga, special events, ceremonies, mystical rituals.
- Pop-culture tourism: tourism by those that visit a particular location after reading about it or seeing it in a film movies etc.
- Perpetual tourism: Many a time people for the purpose of tax evasion or to avoid being resident in any country keep on traveling to different countries.
- Pilgrimage Tourism: People go on pilgrimages to ancient holy and religious places like churches temples stupas, mosques, shrines, etc. to seek consolation and peace of mind.
- Shopping tourism: Individuals visit different places which are famous for shopping such as Dubai, Singapore, and Hong Kong, etc. These countries promote shopping festivals to attract tourists in large numbers.
- Solo Travel: Travelling alone sports travel, skiing, golf, and scuba diving are very much popular ways to spend a vacation. This could also include traveling to a major international sporting event such as the FIFA World Cup, Olympic Games, or any other international events, etc.
- Wine tourism: The visiting of growing regions, vineyards, wineries, fasting rooms, wine festivals, and similar places or events for the purpose of consuming or purchasing wine.
